ConvertFilesNow is a privacy-first file conversion site. Every tool runs entirely in your browser using modern web technologies. Your files never leave your device.

Our mission

The web is full of "free" file converters that quietly upload your files to a remote server, process them there, and store them indefinitely (or worse). We don't think that's acceptable. Modern browsers are powerful enough to do this work locally — usually faster than any server, and far more privately.

We built ConvertFilesNow to prove that file conversion can be:

• Private — your files stay on your device
• Free — no accounts, no watermarks, no limits
• Instant — no upload time, no queue
• Comprehensive — 46+ tools across image, document, video, audio, archive, and unit conversion

How it works

Every conversion uses code that compiles to JavaScript or WebAssembly and runs directly in your browser:

• Image conversions and compression — the browser's Canvas API
• PDF tools — pdf.js (rendering) and pdf-lib (creation)
• Audio and video — FFmpeg.wasm
• Archives — JSZip

The first time you use a video or audio tool, your browser downloads the FFmpeg engine (~30 MB). It's cached after that, so subsequent uses are instant.

Why we built this

We were frustrated by file converters that demand uploads, show watermarks, lock features behind paywalls, or quietly resell user data. We wanted a tool we'd actually use ourselves — one that respects the user the way good software always has. Modern browsers and WebAssembly finally make that possible without compromise.

Our principles

• Local-first. Files never leave your device. No upload step, no server round-trip.
• No accounts. Nothing to sign up for. We don't want your email.
• No tracking across the web. We use basic, anonymized analytics to count page views; nothing follows you off our site.
• Open standards. We use open WebAssembly libraries (FFmpeg, pdf.js) and ship to all modern browsers without lock-in.

What we don't do

• We don't store your files
• We don't have user accounts
• We don't track you across other sites
• We don't sell your data — we don't have any to sell

How we keep the lights on

Hosting and bandwidth aren't free. We may show non-intrusive advertising on the site (via Google AdSense). Ads never have access to your files, since your files never leave your device. You can opt out of personalized ads via our Privacy Policy.
